Last weekend while at my local Antique mall. I found a vintage doll. A frozen Charlotte doll .. She had no price on her and so I walked up to ask at the counter .. I wasn't expecting her to be in my price range but I asked anyway .... I was thinking she bound to be seventy five to hundred dollar ONLY to be told that she was fifteen dollar . Yes you read that, right! fifteen dollars!!!!!
This dealer obviously didn't know what he had....Antique German China Doll
circa 19th Century.
I had to stop myself from doing my happy dance in the middle of the store. Mr H who was with me could believe what I had found. Anyway one of her arms was coming loose, so today I gently took off her dress which also looks original and so is the body, legs and arms stuffed with sawdust. So verycarefully I started to sow back her china arm but she's old hundred years or so and the cotton body is started to wear ..... I doubt she last another hundred years with that body. So the question is.... Do I make a new one for her or leave her as is? I didn't buy her to sell but for my pleasure .... I still can't believe I found her. I love thinking about what she would say to me if she could talk. Who owned her before? As it's so close to christmas I wondered was she brought of a young girl as a christmas present? As she was made in Germany Did her Daddy bring her home from the war?
I was itching to pull out the soldering iron and make some more soldered matchboxes... the snow men are paper clay although maybe soldering in winter is NOT my best idea ... I was freezing because I have to have the window open so I don't breathe in the toxic flumes.. but I think the frozen toes were worth it. Don't you?
It's is dull and cold and the only thing you can do on a day like this is sit in front of the fire to stay warm or stay busy rushing around . I spent the day rushing and playing in the studio making pretty angels....
The images are from Tumble fish studios from two kits Christmas Jungue and Winged splendor.
I'm living in the dark as I took all the light bulbs from the lamps to make the next ornament in the 12 days of christmas workshop... a nesting doll or....Matryoshka doll
Something very different for me , painting again... the one in the tutorial was faceless ... I added a face and of course a touch of whimsy with the paper butterfly...No glitter yet but the day is still young LOL!
I have had this suitcase sitting at the bottom of my bed for ages . I didn't know what I wanted to do with it yet The inspiration hadn't stuck but yesterday while on Pinerest I saw a suitcase with a christmas display by Jen Rizzo http://www.jenniferrizzo.com/2011/12/welcome-to-virtual-holiday-house-walk.html
OMG! Yes I can do that...
You know how sometimes things just fall in to place I made a quick trip to Target and I found the house. The whole display just came together after that. The inside of the suitcase isn't that pretty so I added the lace and wreath ... the house, family photos and granny's gloves and pearls and pretty pastel colored baubles on the tree and glittered snowflakes adds to the magic.
I want to leave it up all year round Mm mm ! maybe I could add birds , nests and eggs for a Easter themed suitcase , now there's a idea

Today I learnt from Emily Falconbridge http://embers.typepad.com/ how to make a recycled rainbow tree ornament , her's are made with felted old sweaters but I mixed my up a bit and made a shabby chic one using all my bit and pieces of lace and fabric... I then placed it in a vintage bowl
